Nestled in
the Shawnee National Forest, Goreville is about as laid
back as you can get. It's mainly a farming community
with lots of cattle farms, soybeans and corn, and that's
about it. We have 2 Gas stations and a handful of
restaurants where the locals hang out drinking coffee.
Our town has about 1000 people when all the kin folks
are in and if you count the dogs and cattle. It's very
small, but a great place to call home.
Goreville is also home to the beautiful Fern Clyffe
State Park. With large rock formations and plenty of
trails and camping space, Ferne Clyffe is a hit with
naturalists and especially rappellers, hikers, and
climbers. The funny thing is that the park is much
larger than the whole town of Goreville.
More
information about Ferne Clyffe State Park is available
at the
Illinois DNR site.
